The gut and brain are in constant two-way contact, and most of the traffic runs from gut to brain. Your body makes it naturally, and fibre is one of the triggers. When gut bacteria ferment fibre, the compounds they produce prompt the cells lining your colon to release it. This is the body's own appetite signal, and fibre is the input.
In a controlled trial, delivering the products of fibre fermentation to the colon increased GLP-1 and reduced how much people ate. (Chambers 2015)
