Chicory root. Pumpkin seeds. Dates. Real cocoa. Real ingredients.

Every ingredient earns its place.

Most bars are built backwards. Pick the macro target, then engineer the ingredients to hit it. We started with the ingredient list. Real food that does the job.

  • Chicory root inulin

    Chicory root inulin

    The backbone of every FIBAR.

Chicory root inulin is a natural fibre extracted from chicory plants. It is the backbone of every FIBAR, contributing most of the 11g of fibre in each bar.

Chicory inulin feeds the beneficial bacteria in your gut and is the only prebiotic fibre in the world with an EU-authorised digestive health claim. The authorised claim states that 12g of chicory inulin per day contributes to normal bowel function by increasing stool frequency. (EFSA 2015)

The full case for fibre, and the depth of evidence behind chicory specifically, can be found on the Why Fibre page.

  • Toasted pumpkin seed protein

    Toasted pumpkin seed protein

Real protein from a real food.

Toasted pumpkin seed protein replaces the ultra-processed protein powders most bars use. It delivers all 10g of protein per FIBAR from a real food source.

Pumpkin seeds are one of the denser natural sources of magnesium on earth. Magnesium plays a role in over 300 enzyme reactions in the body, including muscle function, energy production, and sleep regulation. Many UK adults fall short of the magnesium intake target. (NDNS rolling programme)

The protein has a complete amino acid profile, with strong levels of arginine, glutamic acid, and tryptophan. Real food, not engineered powder.

  • Real dates

    Real dates

Natural sweetness, with the fibre intact.

Date paste provides the natural sweetness in every FIBAR. Dates are around 70% natural sugars, but the fibre matrix slows how those sugars enter the bloodstream. Blood sugar stays steadier than it would with refined sugar.

Dates also contain polyphenols. Flavonoids, phenolic acids, and tannins. Date polyphenols inhibit alpha-glucosidase, the enzyme that breaks down complex sugars in the gut, slowing the rate at which sugars enter the bloodstream further.

Dates have a low glycaemic index. Around 42 to 55 depending on the variety. (Alkaabi 2011) Lower than honey, white bread, or most processed sweeteners. The 7g of sugar on the nutrition panel is natural sugar from real dates. Nothing added.

  • Real cocoa, couverture grade

    Real cocoa, couverture grade

    Real chocolate.

The chocolate on every FIBAR is made using real cocoa, sweetened with coconut sugar instead of refined sugar, made without emulsifiers.

Cocoa flavanols are the active compounds in real cocoa. A high-cocoa diet has been linked to better blood flow, lower blood pressure, and improved cardiovascular health across a number of long-term studies, most recently the COSMOS trial. (Sesso 2022)

Most bars cut corners on the chocolate. They use compound chocolate, which replaces cocoa butter with cheaper vegetable fats and adds emulsifiers to mimic the texture. The flavanol content drops and the ingredient list reads like a chemistry textbook.

  • Freeze-dried raspberries

    Freeze-dried raspberries

    Real fruit, not flavouring.

Real raspberries, not flavouring. Freeze-dried raspberry powder is the only fruit ingredient in Raspberry FIBAR.

Freeze-drying removes the water without heat. The polyphenols, anthocyanins, and ellagitannins that make raspberries deep red and slightly tart are preserved. Concentrated by removing water rather than destroyed by heat.

Raspberry ellagitannins are precursors to urolithin A, a compound produced when gut bacteria metabolise these polyphenols. Urolithin A has been linked to improved mitochondrial function in early-stage human trials. (Andreux 2019)

The competitor approach is to use raspberry flavouring. It costs a fraction of the price, the label still reads natural, and the polyphenols are lost in transit.

  • Peanuts

    Peanuts

    Healthy fats from real peanuts.

Peanut Butter FIBAR contains real peanuts in three forms: peanut paste, peanut nibs, and peanut flour. The same nut at different grinds, contributing crunch, depth of flavour, and structure.

Peanuts have one of the strongest evidence bases for population-level cardiovascular benefits of any food. In the PREDIMED trial, the largest dietary intervention trial in cardiovascular medicine, Mediterranean diets supplemented with nuts were associated with around a 30% reduction in major cardiovascular events. (Estruch 2018)

The mechanisms are well understood. Monounsaturated and polyunsaturated fats. Magnesium. Plant protein. Polyphenols including resveratrol. Fibre.

Most peanut bars use processed peanut butter loaded with palm oil, stabilisers, and added sugar. We use real peanuts.

  • Coconut oil

    A binder, not a filler.

Coconut oil binds the Raspberry FIBAR.

Most bars use industrial seed oils. Sunflower, soybean, rapeseed. Extracted with high heat and chemical solvents, often partially hydrogenated, concentrated in omega-6 fats. The Western diet already contains too much omega-6, and the imbalance between omega-6 and omega-3 has been linked to inflammation and metabolic dysfunction in observational studies. (Simopoulos 2008)

Coconut oil is rich in medium-chain triglycerides. MCTs are metabolised on a different pathway than long-chain fats, going to the liver for energy use rather than the lymphatic system for storage.

A simple ingredient with one job.

  • Gluten-free oats

Slow carbs, soluble fibre, complete protein partner.

Gluten-free oats provide slow-release carbohydrate and add to the fibre count. Their soluble fibre, beta-glucan, has been linked to lower cholesterol and a slower rise in blood sugar after eating. (Whitehead 2014)

Oats also complement the pumpkin seed protein. Plant proteins are often incomplete on their own, but combining oats with pumpkin seed protein covers a wider amino acid profile. Real food working together.

  • Puffed quinoa

    A complete plant protein.

Puffed quinoa adds texture and a complete plant protein to every FIBAR. Quinoa is one of the few plant foods that contains all nine essential amino acids in adequate proportions. A profile usually associated with animal protein.

Puffing is a heat-and-pressure process that opens up the grain without adding anything. No oil, no flour, no extruded coatings.

Quinoa is gluten-free by nature and has a low to moderate glycaemic index, around 53. It also contains saponins, magnesium, and iron at meaningful levels.

The role in FIBAR is structural and nutritional. A small ingredient doing two jobs at once.

What's not in it.

Just as important as what's in the bar. Six things you'll never find in FIBAR.

  • 1. No emulsifiers

Emulsifiers like soy lecithin and sunflower lecithin are common in chocolate-coated bars. We use a single-origin couverture made without them.

  • 2. No artificial sweeteners

No sucralose, no maltitol, no stevia, no acesulfame K. The sweetness comes from dates and a small amount of coconut sugar in the chocolate.

  • 3. No seed oils

No sunflower, soybean, or rapeseed oil. The fats come from real food: pumpkin seeds, coconut oil, peanuts, cocoa butter.

  • 4. No processed protein isolates

No soya protein isolate, no whey protein concentrate. The 10g of protein per bar comes from toasted pumpkin seed protein, oats, and quinoa.

  • 5. No engineered fibres

No polydextrose, no soluble corn fibre, no resistant maltodextrin. The 11g of fibre per bar comes from chicory root, oats, dates, and quinoa.

  • 6. No fillers, no flavourings, no humectants

No bulking agents, no natural flavours, no glycerol. Every ingredient does a job you can see on the label.

Real food. Real benefits.

Most bars compromise on something. The ingredient list, the macros, or both. We started with the ingredient list and built the macros from there. The bars worth eating.
